What are you wearing down under? Part I

July 12, 2016 by Sheveland Beard 12 Comments

What brand of tampons or sanitary napkins, do you wear? The “go to” brand that you ONLY use that you never leave home without? The main “go to” products are Playtex, Always, Kotex, Stayfree and the list goes on. I was an Always and Tampax type of girl myself and thought that they were the best products on earth. Although they were my “go to” products for quite some time, I never actually thought about what they were made of and how these products were affecting my body. I just knew that I needed them once a month, faithfully.

Instant gratification is the theory of this century in which we want more of everything and we want it now! In order to get more, make things bigger, produce things faster and more accessible things like pesticides and  genetically modified organism  are used… but what kind of affect does that have on our bodies? As a result of  wanting more and faster production of resources,  we are wearing some of the things listed below down under:

  • Cotton tampons that contain pesticides
  • Genetically modified cotton
  • Chlorine in pad and tampons to get that pretty white and pure color
  • Polypropylene and Polyethylene thermoplastic polymers
  • Rayon contains dioxin

When we wear the things listed above down under, what does that really mean?

Please Stay tuned for What are you wearing down under? Part II

Awesome article! It’s difficult for a woman to know that she could be contaminating her reproductive source, with what’s deemed to be a necessity. I can’t wait to read part ll.

Often times we never consider these products to be harmful. I’m interested in more details concerning what it can do to our bodies.

Because these products have always been a necessity, I can honestly say that I never thought of the chemicals & products used to produce them. Pesticides and chlorine…eek! Patiently awaiting Part II !!

This was a good read. SincE we need these items consistently I never really thought about the ingredients they used in them. I guess we assume they are safe ore regulated. The reality is we do need to ask these questions. Thanks! Can’t wait for part two.

During the month of April, I asked that women share their journey with fibroids so that other women will know that they are not alone. As different women shared their stories treatments, diets, symptoms, embarrassments, struggles, pregnancies and results varied. As I share the story of Tracie P below, keep in mind there is not cookie cutter answer to shrinking fibroids. Just like a recipe, several people could have the same recipe but add their own individual touch to change the taste, texture or feel and the same applies to your journey. One woman could shrink her fibroids from diet alone, another woman would shrink her fibroids by steaming every day, another woman getting rid of her fibroids by having surgery and another woman could shrink her fibroids from steaming, working out and dietary changes. Same diagnosis of having fibroids (represents the recipe) but different approaches to treating/shrinking fibroids (your spin/touch on the recipe). Let Tracie’s story not be a story of comparison, but a story of hope that you find the recipe that works for your body to shrink fibroids naturally or surgically. Below I present to you the Journey of Tracie P in her words…
