I have been seeing information about the Yoni Steam and it’s benefits since about 2011 and always thought it would be a wonderful natural service for womb health since it has been a part of my personal journey. I pride myself on using natural interventions for my health whenever possible. I gave birth to my daughter in 2011 and experienced the benefits of an herbal bath to heal my yoni after the birth. It was not until 2013 that I received my first Yoni Steam session after a miscarriage because I wanted to benefit from the natural herbs again. It was wonderful and relaxing experience, as I received a womb stimulation massage from the practitioner, crystal work, affirmations and a herbal infusion to nourish my body from the inside as well.
The Yoni Steam technique that I use for myself and clients was created in 2009 by Sat’Ra Sodaye’ to reflect a holistic approach to ancient vaginal steaming methods with a modern version of Ancient and Traditional Hip Bath & post-partum steam traditions. One of the things I really enjoy about the process that Sat-Ra teaches, is the Yoni Breaths. Yoni breaths are performed as my client sits over the steam as I read an affirmation and they repeat it. Before the next affirmation a yoni breath is done by visualizing the flow of positive energy into the vaginal canal, through the cervix, into the uterus, up and over into the uterine tubes and ending at the ovaries. With the increase of positive energy with the yoni breath, negative energy connected to trauma needs to be removed and released, so do the reverse. You visualize the negative energy flowing from the ovaries all the way out the vaginal opening. When I did it with Sat-Ra, she ask me to visualize the positive energy as orange while holding a carnelian crystal since that is the color connected to the sacral chakra that houses the yoni. Because it was so helpful foe me, I do this with my clients and let them choose if they want to incorporate the crystals as not everyone is ready or open to working with crystals.
In one of my yoni steams sessions I guided a client through yoni breaths and I did not tell her to think of a color because I did not feel led to do so. I just did the affirmations and the yoni breath guidance. At the end of the session, I asked her if anything came to her consciousness that she saw clearly. She mentioned an orange flower that bloomed. I then educated her that the color orange is connected to the yoni and sacral chakra. Women have what we need to heal ourselves, sitting in our cells and DNA passed on from our mother and foremothers. Tap into that energy ladies. As a result of the session aforementioned, that client went on to have a menstrual cycle the following month and had not experiences a menstrual cycle in months.
The Yoni Steam is a natural and gentle form of hydrotherapy that has been historically used to cleanse the uterus, release toxins while strengthening and toning the reproductive organs. Warm steam rises from your custom herbal infusion blend as you sit over a low Yoni stool with an opening to allow the medicinal benefits of the herbs to enter through your vaginal canal, through the cervix into the uterus, uterine tubes and ovaries. It is a marvelous safe, relaxing and peaceful healing experience. This wonderful healing modality helps with the relief of irregular menses, fibroids, endometriosis, bacterial vaginosis, womb trauma, infertility, cysts, emotional, hormonal, spiritual imbalances and more.
As a clinician, I choose my client’s herbs based on their given diagnosis, the symptoms they share with me and my intuition as I will pick things up when I read their health history form and during our initial consultation before the steam session. An herb like rosemary or blue cohosh will help women who start menstruation with dark brown old blood as it will help with emptying uterus. Red raspberry will help with toning and strengthening the uterus. Uva ursi will help with bladder health if you tend to experience urinary tract infections. Red Clover is great for preventing tumor growth and promotes overall womb health. Nettle is great for providing nutrients since it is high in iron and calcium for those women who experience heavy bleeding due to fibroids and become anemic. Ginger helps with circulation and removing stagnation in the uterus. Blackwalnut hull is excellent for bacterial vaginosis which is connected with a change in pH. Our vaginas naturally are on the acidic scale around 4.5 so when sperm and certain personal care products are introduced to change it to a more alkaline level so it can smell like flowers bacterial vaginosis can show up.
